Soil – A Precious Natural Resource: a brochure to mark the "International Year of Soils 2015"
Soil – A Precious Natural Resource is a spectacular information brochure with fascinating and artistic images. It was produced by NRP 68 in collaboration with the federal administration.
The UN General Assembly declared 2015 the International Year of Soils. For one year, the world beneath our feet is at the center of our attention.
The author of the brochure, Gregor Klaus, presents the knowledge about soil as a resource in an accessible way. Illustrated by the internationally renowned artist Nils Nova and some spectacular photographs of soil micro-organisms, the brochure focuses on the functions of soil and the services it provides to society.
The brochure is a co-production of NRP 68 and three federal offices (Federal Office of the Environment FOEN; Federal Office for Spatial Development ARE; Federal Office for Agriculture FOAG). It is targeted at:
- land users (agriculture, forestry, spatial planning, building industry and tourism)
- decision makers at the federal, cantonal and communal level
- schools (secondary)
- general public
The preface, written by two Federal Councillors: Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard , Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications, and Federal Councillor Johann N. Schneider-Ammann , Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research EAER, indicates that the Swiss government recognises the importance of soil and the shared responsibility of using it sustainably.
