Conclusion of the project "Decision-making platform"

Soil protection is improved when municipalities cooperate and spatial planners take ecosystem services into account.

Working with a 3D decision-making platform in a stakeholder discussion in order to better assess ecosystem services under different spatial planning scenarios.

​The project "Decision-making platform" conducted by Adrienne Grêt-Regamey, ETH Zurich, developed a 3D platform that helps to get the right balance between key ecosystem services and less important services when identifying new building zones. If municipalities also cooperate with each other when making these decisions, they can significantly reduce the loss of ecosystem services. Thanks to the platform, the impact of spatial-planning decisions on ecosystem services is made visible.

In addition, a survey has shown that the political context matters when new spatial planning tools are integrated into existing planning processes.
